Darien Lake Theme Park Resort and Orange County Choppers Pair Up to Launch New Motorcycle Themed Roller Coaster

One-of-a-kind Roller Coaster to be Called “Orange County Choppers MotoCoaster”

Darien Lake, NY- Darien Lake Theme Park Resort, set to open for the 2008 season on May 3, is thrilled to announce a strategic alliance with New York based Orange County Choppers (OCC). The partnership, which is the first theme park alliance for OCC, includes naming Darien Lake’s newest thrill ride – a motorcycle themed roller coaster - the Orange County Choppers MotoCoaster. OCC will also build a custom bike inspired by the new ride and overall Darien Lake Theme Park Resort experience, to be featured on an upcoming episode of American Chopper, which airs Thursdays at 9:00 p.m. Eastern on TLC.

As a part of the partnership, the crew from OCC will visit Darien Lake Theme Park Resort to experience the entire park first hand and gain inspiration for a custom OCC MotoCoaster motorcycle. The design and build of this custom bike will be featured on an episode of American Chopper, the popular television show featuring Paul Sr., Paul Jr., and Mikey Teutul of Orange County Choppers.

The Teutuls, founders of OCC, are slated to make various appearances throughout the season at Darien Lake Theme Park Resort. The Teutuls are currently scheduled to be at the park on Friday, May 16 for the Grand Opening of the original MotoCoaster roller coaster and to conduct research and find inspiration as they plan to design a custom chopper for the park.

In June, the Teutuls will return to the park to unveil the finished custom bike which will remain on permanent display at Darien Lake Theme Park Resort. During the unveiling of the custom Darien Lake chopper, new themeing for the re-named Orange County Choppers MotoCoaster will also be presented.

In addition, as part of the alliance, Darien Lake Theme Park Resort guests will have the opportunity to win an exclusive Orange County Choppers production bike, painted with a unique Darien Lake design.

“We are excited to partner with Orange County Choppers as we present this first of its kind roller coaster experience to Western New York,” said Christopher Thorpe, Darien Lake’s General Manager. “It is truly an awesome partnership for both organizations and a great opportunity to have fun with fans while delivering a completely unique ride experience.”

About Orange County Choppers, Inc.:
Paul Teutul, Sr., metalworker by trade and founder of Orange County Choppers, first began his business of building custom choppers out of the basement of his home in Montgomery, NY. With the creative help and following of his oldest son, Paul Jr., the two were soon on their way to the top with the success of Paul Sr.’s first bike, “True Blue” at Daytona Biketoberfest in 1999. From that point on, Paul Sr. knew he had something and established Orange County Choppers that same year.

The Teutuls were quickly becoming recognized by chopper enthusiasts everywhere. They were not only making a name for themselves in the custom bike world, but were picked up by the Discovery Channel in 2002 as the basis of what is now the hit television series, American Chopper. Their popularity has led them to build custom theme bikes for some of the biggest names in corporate America such as Intel, Sunoco and Hewlett-Packard. Today, Orange County Choppers is regarded as one of the world’s premier builders of custom motorcycles.

NEW ROLLER COASTER!!!!

Prototype MotoCoaster To Open at Darien Lake

Darien Center, NY -- Darien Lake will debut the prototype Zamperla MotoCoaster in May according to an article on the Park World web site. This launched roller coaster will be the first and only ride of its kind at the New York theme park.

According to Park World, the park purchased the prototype that had been assembled and tested at the Zamperla factory in Italy. The ride has since been taken down and is now en-route to Darien Lake for installation.

Zamperla's MotoCoaster is a compact launched steel coaster with a three-layer, figure eight layout. This 1,198-foot long coaster reaches a height of 44 feet and a top speed of 38 mph. An individual six car train seats riders two abreast in twelve seats that resemble a motorcycle.

To accelerate the train the MotoCoaster uses a flywheel and clutch launch mechanism instead of a traditional lift hill. In just three seconds the train is set into motion from zero to 38 mph.

Zamperla is marketing the roller coaster's Flywheel launch mechanism as being very reliable and easy to maintain. It's also a proven system that has been in use on other roller coasters for nearly three decades.

With the additon of the MotoCoaster this summer Darien Lake will now offer guests a total of seven different roller coasters.

Darien Lake runs full speed ahead with the MotoCoaster

Race To The Top: The MotoCoaster will be the Darien Lake's seventh roller coaster but the park's first launched roller coaster.
Darien Lake Theme Park Resort last constructed a new roller coaster back in 1999 when the park, which was then known as Six Flags Darien Lake, unveiled Superman – Ride of Steel, which currently operates under the name Ride of Steel. Now finally after nine years of waiting, park guests at Darien Lake will be able to climb aboard a new roller coaster this summer, the MotoCoaster.
The MotoCoaster will debut in May of this year and is actually a prototype, motorcycle themed, launch coaster from the Italian amusement ride manufacturer, Zamperla. With the addition of the MotoCoaster, Darien Lake will operate a total of seven different roller coasters this season.

Darien Lake’s new MotoCoaster was originally assembled and tested at the Zamperla factory in Italy where they then allowed members of the media to ride and document the new attraction to help advertise the ride’s design. Since then the ride has been dismantled and is currently be shipped overseas to Darien Lake.

Zamperla’s MotoCoaster is a compact launched steel roller coaster that stands 44 feet high and features a figure eight style design with three layers of twisting and turning track. The single motorcycle themed train will race 12 riders through the 1,198 feet of track at a top speed of 38 mph.

The MotoCoaster uses a flywheel and clutch launch mechanism to accelerate the ride’s train from zero to 38 mph in three seconds. Zamperla is advertising the coaster’s flywheel launch mechanism as being a very reliable and an easy to maintain launch system. They are able to back up this advertising campaign with the fact that flywheel launch systems have been used on roller coasters since the 1970’s.

Darien Lake’s MotoCoaster will be one of three Zamperla MotoCoasters to debut this year. Another standard model will be built at Xetulul in Guatemala, and a custom-designed model called the Pony Express is being assembled at Knott’s Berry Farm in California.

First NEW RIDE in 9 years!

Darien Lake Gets First New Roller Coaster in 9 Years
It's been a long time coming for the Darien Lake faithful. The park located just outside of Buffalo, New York hasn't received a new roller coaster since Superman: Ride of Steel in 1999. No longer a Six Flags theme park, PARC Management wants to make a splash in 2008with the addition of a Zamperla Motocoaster.

NEW RIDE FOR 2008 SEASON!!!

We've heard the rumors before, but now ParkWorld Magazine has confirmed that Darien Lake will add the Zamperla MotoCoaster prototype seen above.

Joining it's sister Zamperla MotoCoaster at Knott's Berry Farm in 2008, the ride has been running outside the Zamperla plant in Italy for some time now.

I'm glad Darien Lake is adding this ride - good for them. Perhaps the park can thrive under it's new PARC ownership.
stay tuned for NEW RIDES UPDATES
